I started using Trumpet Telnet(, not telw) and I like the way it is
set up with multiple connection within its window and it actually
runs unlike telw.
I don't think my system uses bootp though, although it is possible,
and the IT department is pretty useless. Is there any way to query
hte system for this.

It is at ftp.microsoft.com.

While I don't specifically run WFW under IPX I do need to cross routers with
Tcpip. AFter several suggestions we have finally got WFW to go across the
routers here, since the netbui was shut down. You have to have a lmhost file,
comes with the daytona package, and your hosts across the routers have to be
listed.( see examples in your lmhost file). You should put the #PRE line after
each entry. Then when you setup the Daytona protocol , under dns setup, enable
Wins resolution. This worked for us to see other WFW groups across the
routers and fits into our networking guidelines. Hope this helps

Subject: WFW TCP/IP-32 SLIP/PPP setup?
I have used MacTCP and recently Trumpet Winsock with a SLIP/PPP
connection. The Trumpet Winsock didn't seem to be as robust the MacTCP.
Trumpet Winsock seemed to have trouble with Mosaic 2.0a4 non-US servers
like Cern but worked pretty snappy with US servers. I blamed it on
Trumpet Winsock in my own mind and headed for a Microsoft setup
figuring that the MS stuff would be more robust, like MacTCP is on the
Mac.
This is where the fun (confusion) started. I installed WFW and am
running without a network. I didn't see a way to get MS TCP/IP-32 to
look at the EtherSL (EtherSLIP pkt driver) and Winpkt I had been using
with the Trumpet Winsock setup. Does MS TCP/IP support SLIP/PPP? If so,
how do you do it? Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.
Thanks,
Lee

Subject: RE: win32 sockets
Date: Mon, 23 May 94 09:01:00 PDT
X-Mailer: Microsoft Mail V3.0
|I've got a problem with win32 and winsock. What I want is one thread
|that listens to one of two input sources, either a socket or (in my
|case) a Sybase connection. My problem is that I've set the Sybase
|connection to signal me with a win32 event when it is done, but I have
|a problem with telling when the socket is ready to read.
|
|I could use WSAAsyncSelect, but I'm going to be running this as a
|service, and it's not clear to me (and others, apparently) under what
|circumstances a service can create a window (as requred for
|WSAAsyncSelect). If I could create a window, I cound use
|MsgWaitForMultipleObjects() to do what I want. Since I'll be a
|service, I'd rather not use a window anyway.
|
|What I really want is something similar to WSAAsyncSelect that uses a
|win32 event to signal when it is ready.
|
|Any suggestions? Has anyone else faced this problem? What solution
|did you use?
yes, WSAAsyncSelect is a pain to use in a service. however, since NT
sockets are real asynchronous file handles, you can use the ReadFile() and
WriteFile() win32 routines to perform asynchronous I/O on sockets and get
notified of I/O completion via a win32 event. just pass in the socket
handle as the file handle to ReadFile() and your event in the hEvent fielf
of the OVERLAPPED structure. when the read completes, your event is set.

I got MTCPB2.EXE from ftp.microsoft.com:/peropsys/wfw/tcpip/vxdbeta
If there's an even later release, it'll probably be in the same directory.
